On transient type

This book is being edited and pro­duced by Ray Keys of Yiiyi Press. It’s writ­ten and designed by Letterfit stu­dio, London and its con­tent is divided into four sections:

On tran­si­ent type & tech­niques (about design­ing type, specifically)

On tran­si­ent typo­graphy (about apply­ing & observing type in use)

Photo gal­ler­ies: type & let­ter­ing transience

Postscript & Addendum: ‘On tran­si­ence’ (thoughts about another essay)

There are a few reas­ons why these texts are not cur­rently pos­ted. The first is a mat­ter of cour­tesy. Other books are men­tioned as excerpts – and these authors and pub­lish­ers have been con­tac­ted to allow them time to approve the con­text in which these are men­tioned. All of this is done in keep­ing with the strict­est stand­ards of ‘fair use quotes’ – but in the end, both author and pub­lisher of this new book agreed it was best to make con­tact and allow those con­cerned to have their review of this text before its pub­lic posting.

The other reas­ons are edit­or­ial (select­ing what’s appro­pri­ate for the web) and prac­tical (not post­ing too much of an involved text which will soon be offered for sale as a book). Here’s a glimpse of the cur­rently favoured cover design – more soon:
